Privacy Policy
Overview
GoalStriving (goalstriving.org and related subdomains) provides personal wiki spaces for learning, reflection, and goal-setting. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the public website at goalstriving.org, the admin portal at admin.goalstriving.org, and individual wikis hosted on *.goalstriving.org.
GoalStriving is a community project working toward non-profit status. Until formal incorporation is complete, the project is operated by its volunteer stewards in the public interest.
Information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account and wiki setup. When you create an account or wiki, we store information needed to operate your account, such as your sign-in identifier, email address, chosen wiki name, and wiki access settings.
- Wiki content. Pages, uploads, comments, and other material you add to your wiki are stored so we can provide the service. You control what you publish and who can see it according to your wiki's visibility settings.
- Forms on goalstriving.org. If you use our contact form, newsletter sign-up, or project-name survey, we collect the fields you submit (such as name, email address, message text, or name preferences), along with your IP address and approximate city and country when available.
- Support and correspondence. If you contact us, we keep the content of your message and related details so we can respond.
Information from sign-in providers
We use third-party identity providers for authentication. When you sign in with Google or another supported provider, we receive information that provider shares with us—typically your email address and a stable account identifier. We do not receive your password. Provider use of your data is governed by that provider's own privacy policy.
Information collected automatically
- Server and security logs. Like most web services, we record technical data when you use the platform, including IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps. We use this for operation, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and security.
- Authentication and admin audit logs. We maintain logs of sign-in events, wiki login attempts, administrative actions, and related security events. These logs may include your account identifier, email address, IP address, action type, and time of the event.
- Wiki name checks. When you request a wiki subdomain during registration, we log the requested name, the outcome of our availability and policy checks, your account identifier, email address, IP address, and— for public IP addresses—approximate city and country derived from the IP address.
- Analytics. On selected public pages at goalstriving.org, we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage. Google Analytics may use cookies and collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type, and referral source. Analytics is not loaded on admin.goalstriving.org.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We use essential session cookies to keep you signed in across goalstriving.org and related subdomains. Analytics cookies may be set on public portal pages as described above.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the GoalStriving platform and your wiki
- Authenticate users and enforce access controls
- Process form submissions and communicate with you
- Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, and security incidents
- Enforce our naming and content policies
- Understand how the public website is used so we can improve it
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and users
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your private wiki content for advertising.
How we share information
We may share information in these situations:
- Service providers. We use vendors that help us run the platform, such as cloud hosting, database, email, analytics, and geolocation lookup providers. They process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
- Other wiki participants. If your wiki is shared or public, content and account activity visible within that wiki may be seen by other members or visitors according to your settings.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of GoalStriving, our users, or the public.
- Organizational changes. If GoalStriving incorporates as a non-profit or transfers operations to a successor organization, information may transfer as part of that change, subject to this policy or a successor policy with notice to users.
Third-party services
GoalStriving relies on third-party services that have their own privacy practices, including:
- Google (account sign-in, reCAPTCHA on home page forms, and on public portal pages, Google Analytics)
- Authentik or other OpenID Connect identity providers we configure for sign-in
- Amazon Web Services (hosting and database infrastructure)
- ipinfo.io (approximate city and country lookup for public IP addresses logged during wiki name checks and home page form submissions)
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of services you choose to use for sign-in or that load in your browser.
Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Wiki content remains until you delete it or request wiki deletion. Security, audit, and abuse-prevention logs are kept for a limited operational period unless a longer period is required for investigation or legal compliance. Form submissions and newsletter sign-ups are retained until they are no longer needed for the purpose collected or you ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
- Account and wiki content. You can edit or delete wiki content you control and adjust wiki visibility where the platform allows.
- Newsletter. You may unsubscribe from our newsletter by contacting us.
- Analytics. You can limit analytics collection through browser settings, privacy extensions, or Google's opt-out tools for Google Analytics.
- Access, correction, and deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the information below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
GoalStriving is operated from the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
Children's privacy
GoalStriving is intended for users who can lawfully enter into online services under applicable law. Our sign-in providers may impose their own minimum age requirements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be announced on goalstriving.org. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
